Mental health continues to be a concerning issue for millions of people. For as much as we know about treating mental health, there is a lot more that we do not know. That is why in 1992, World Mental Health Day started to raise awareness about mental health and reduce the stigma that comes with it. Young adults are especially at risk, and a young adult mental health program can help you or a loved one struggling with depression, anxiety, or any number of mental health issues.
At A Fresh Start Therapy, our young adult mental health program can help young adults face many challenges like college, starting a new business, or finding a job to pay the bills. These challenges and more can negatively affect your mental health and have long-lasting effects that can stick with you for the rest of your life. If you or a loved one is struggling with mental health issues and is ready for help, call 855.325.3909 today to learn more about our young adult mental health programs.
About World Mental Health Day
To better educate the world about the growing concerns of mental health issues, Deputy Secretary-General Richard Hunter started World Mental Health Day on October 10, 1992, at the request of the World Federation on Mental Health. Its purpose is to educate and bring awareness about the increasing mental health issues and provide effective treatment for people worldwide.
Today, young adults are at an all-time high risk of mental health issues. These are very uncertain times, and they are at a greater risk of suffering from:
- Depression
- Stress and anxiety
- Mood disorders
- Eating disorders
With all of the changes they face, young adults must take extra care of their mental health. But due to the stigma of mental health, many young adults are not equipped for the stresses they will face. World Mental Health Day will help remove these negative stereotypes and show everyone that mental health is just a disease, and treatment is available.
Taking a Mental Health Holiday
Taking a mental health holiday is just as important as taking care of your physical body. You may be physically fit, but if you suffer from depression or are just generally unhappy, that will negatively affect your overall health and reduce your wellbeing. There are plenty of things you can do to take a mental health holiday, whether that is only for ten minutes or a few hours:
- Meditation/breathing exercises
- Do something that makes you happy
- Spending time in nature
- Volunteering
- Spending time with friends and loved ones
Celebrating World Mental Health Day does not have to wait until October 10. You can celebrate every day by taking a mental break at work, home, or whenever you need it. Even if it is to close your eyes and put on some noise-canceling headphones for a few minutes. You will find that the more you take time for yourself with a mental holiday, the more you can handle the day-to-day stress that you will face.
At A Fresh Start Therapy, we want to help you understand the importance of celebrating World Mental Health Day and taking a mental break to maintain your overall health. Our young adult mental health programs can give you the cognitive skills you need to cope with these difficulties in a positive way.
